As a result of the relentlessly increasing impact of
behavioral health conditions in society, there is growing
impatience for a paradigm shift in order to move
behavioral health from the periphery to the forefront
of the health and wellness agenda. The return on
investment for integrating behavioral health into primary
care is especially worthwhile for our most vulnerable
populations. Integrating behavioral health into primary
care converts theoretical access into real access,
improves health outcomes for people with mental illness
and/or substance use disorders, enhances adherence
with treatment recommendations, and reduces overall
health care costs.
In this e-book, we explore how an integrated model of
care can be applied both in traditional and home-based
primary care settings, while offering recommendations
for launching and sustaining integrated behavioral health
care models.
